New Scotland Home Kit

At last the new Scotland Home Shirt has been revealed and is now available to pre-order from Football Nation. It’s safe to say that so far the fans reaction to the kit has been fantastic. That is in no small way down to Adidas’s stunning new design that ticks a lot of the essential design features boxes. Here’s the breakdown of some of the great new design features of the new Scotland shirt.

New Scotland Badge

The new Scotland Home Shirt boasts a return to the traditional round Scotland Badge that is so reminiscent of Scotland’s glory days. The Scotland badge in this form was first seen in 1961 and was last used on a Scotland Shirt in 1988. Rumoured to have been on the Adidas design sketches since they clinched the Scotland Kit deal over a year ago, this badge design has been warmly welcomed by the Tartan Army. The current badge known as the “number plate” has been universally disliked since its inception in 2003.

Scotland Shirt Embossed Detail

Adidas have become well known in shirt spotting circles for producing shirts, particularly national shirts, with some form of embossed details on the front of the shirts. In this case the design is formed from the Saltire Flag and othe aspects of Scottish symbology such as the Thistle. This unique Saltire embossing incorporates a range of sources from around Scotland that champion the Scottish FA’s rich footballing history – including the old and new Hampden Park, the Lion Rampant, the Thistle, the 1928 ball used in the 5-1 demolition of England at Wembley Stadium, the Fleur De Lis and the date 1873 – the year of the Scottish FA’s foundation.

Scotland Shirt Collar

You either love them or hate them but the new Scotland Shirt has a great looking white collar not seen on a Scotland Shirt since 2003. This collar gives the new Scocland Kit a very retro style feel to the kit and is particularly reminiscent of one of Scotland’s most famous shirts, the 1978 World Cup Shirt. Another extra detail is on the placket of the collar where there is a very simple Saltire badge adding yet more to this shirt design.

New Scotland Shorts

The new Scotland Shorts are as you would expect are white in colour with navy Adidas 3 Stripes down the legs. The new badge is sited on the right leg. A navy band is positioned around the waist which is a nod to the 1985/88 Umbro shorts and a very interesting feature.

New Scotland Socks

The new Scotland Home Socks are what is now seen as a traditional red drawn from the red of the Lion Rampant. White stripes are around the top of the socks and the word Alba (Gaelic for Scotland) is worked into the fabric on the front of the socks

So overall this has to be one of the nicest Scotland Kits in perhaps 20 years. With the fight for the EURO 2012 Playoff going right to the wire Scotland still have a chance to get the playoff spot for the Ukraine/Poland Finals.
